The Most Well Known Romantic Spots in Zamalek

There are many places in Zamalek that had been the reason for many couples to meet... I personally do know a lot of people who like to go to certain places in Zamalek to find their ONE... 

1- Gezira Sporting Club

'Nady El Gezira' had always been recognized for being 'the lovers club' or 'Nady El 3osha2' Since so long many marriage/date set ups had been organized there for couples to meet.  For the 70s, 80s, and 90s couples going to 'El Gezira Club' was the best choice... If you walked there you are gonna see many trees with letters, hearts, names and symbols... If you are a member definitely your first crush was there... For the 00s couples you are definitely gonna remember this the Pergola, the Golf area, the lido and FBI... And, the newest place now is Gezira's New Gym! Couples do meet there to work out together more than they actually work out...Most of girls go there with full make up and guys look their best who knows! For teenagers, check out the girls bathrooms at the pergola, they do write letters about their bfs, their exes and their crushes right on the toilets' doors... I actually like to go there to enjoy reading and sometimes I do reply... it's very interesting.

2- Left Bank 

You have a date you don't think in a place... You just go directly to left bank... Low lights at night in front of the Nile view... very romantic... I've met (or caught) like over 20 of my best friends guys and girls meeting up there with their ones... Honestly, it's one of my choices too... If you still don't have a date already you go there in the morning and you are gonna meet everyone you know and who knows maybe someone you know will introduce you to someone you will get to know and fall for... 

3- Coffee Bean and Tea Leaf

If you wanna meet your ONE ... Goooooo but don't go alone! Bring your DOG with you and if you don't have a dog borrow your cousin's dog or your best friend's dog ... But, you shall bring a dog with you...If you are a guy or a girl bringing your dog with you will definitely make you meet the one you are looking for... and bring the dog that represents your personality...

4- Diwan 

A bookstore not weird to meet your soul-mate... If you love reading and you want your one to be a reader too... You can go to Diwan... A good friend of mine had met her husband there!.. You can share books... You can know her/his personality from the section he or she are looking at.. Diwan is a good place for a specific type of people to meet and you can also make friends too... 

5- Alfa Market 

Expect the unexpected! Don't disgrade Alfa Market for being a Romantic Spot for people to meet their ones... A guy friend of mine was telling me how he met his GF, he said 'I was starving for a bar of chocolate' and he lives in an apartment in Alfa's street... He went their in his pyjamas ... he wasn't looking good that day... He saw her she was looking for yogurt (light yogurt) she was dieting... He liked her he thought she's pretty so he helped her to find the yogurt he opened up a conversation... They discovered that they graduated from the same university... And, he said to me we never forgot Alfa Market's Charm... 

6- The Aquarium (Genenet Al Asmak) 

If you are talking about the past ... like really really the past back to 1900s... Genenet Al Asmak had been the spot for many couples to meet in the past... If you had seen the movie 'Al Aydi Al Na3ema' (the soft hand) You are gonna relate... Like regular couples and classy couples used to meet there in the past, but now Genenet Al Asmak since it had been closed in 1965 and was opened again in 1988 it became a place for a bit local class... In the past it only included Zamalek residents, but since late 80s till today the social class of it's guests became a lot lower... There are also a 00s movie named 'Genenet Al Asmak" that was starring Amr Waked and Hend Sabri.

Celebrities that live or have lived in Zamalek

1- Abdel Halim Hafez

Halim was living at Zahraa El Gezira Building it's located in Hassan Sabry St. and Al Aziz Osman St. , Now it's in the same building of the Denmark Embassy. The building is now known as Abdelhalim Building. 

2- Oum Kalthoum 

Oum Kalthoum was having her own villa at Abo El feda St. They after her death the Villa was transformed into a Hotel. And, also there is an Oum Kalthoum Statue that is located in front of the Hotel. 











3- Mohamed Abdel Wahab 

Abdelwahab was one of the most famous actors that were known that he lived in Zamalek. He used to make his meetings with other artists and celebrities in the past. They used to sing and write songs and work there.







4- Farid El Atrash


Farid El Atrash lived in Zamalek, and he named his apartment there the "Dar El Hana," which means the house of Joy. His apartment was chosen by his sister Asmahan. Farid left his apartment to his brother Fouad El Atrash and he built his own apartment in Giza.  




5- Fouad El Mohandes

Fouad El Mohandes was living in a villa in Mohamed Mazhar St., and a huge fire had occurred there and he was about to die but he was saved by his neighbor. Fouad El Mohandes was 80 years old during this fire. Fouad El Mohandes Villa is located in the 7th and 8th floor of a big building in Zamalek. The reason for the fire was the air conditioner. 



6- Soad Hosny 

Soad Hosny was living in Hassan Sabry Street in Zamalek, besides Al Gabalaya Aquarium besides the Embassy of Portugal. There are also sources that says that Soad Hosny had actually owned three apartments in Zamalek. 




7- Roushdy Abaza and Samya Gamal

The couple were living together in libon Building. Roushdy Abaza had before made a huge accident by his car. In a very late night, he had took his car and had hit the building without waiting for the gates to be opened. And, since then Abaza stopped driving. 










8- Faten Hamama

She had been living there for over than 26 years. 












9- Laila Fawzy

Laila was also living in Brazil Street. 

10- Moharam Fouad

Moharam Fouad was living in Libon Street too.

They are both living in what's is called "Souffle" building. Because the famous patisserie Souffle is located there.

Zekra the famous singer who was murdered by her husband in her house in Zamalek. The apartment is not sold till today. Then, her husband Ayman Al Swedy had shot her secretary, business manger and then he had committed suicide.

The Top 7 Problems of Zamalek that need to be fixed

1- Building a Metro in Zamalek 

Number one problem right now in Zamalek. The metro subject had been so annoying and everyone who lives in Zamalek doesn't want it ! But, for example students in Universities like the Fine Arts college want it because it's going to be easier for them when it comes to transportation... But we think it's a bad idea because also Zamalek is an Island on the Nile River and Probably building a metro would be so wrong ! Although the governor says that it's approved by many engineers. But, if we imagined building a metro on an island that's surrounded by water is unimaginable and it might be so wrong. Zamalek residents had been complaining for so long, but no actual action was taken. And, in the beginning the idea was disapproved then they came back and they approved it. 


2- Unlicensed Cafes and Restaurants

The second problem that zamalek is facing those days is the huge number of cafes and restaurants that had been opened without a permission. The police had closed and shut down most of them, but still this doesn't mean that the problem had been solved, because the number of cafes, lounges, restaurants, clubs and pubs is just increasing and this is causing many other troubles like block traffic, the environment of Zamalek, and finding a parking spot. Especially on week ends it becomes so hard for people to move from a place to place or to park. Beside the big number of cafes and restaurants there are two big famous clubs that are located in Zamalek Al Ahly club and Al Gezira Club, this also create a huge problem and it increases the crowed. 

3- The Number of Schools and Universities in Zamalek 

The huge number of schools and universities in Zamalek could be the third problem on the list. Zamalek has a very big list of educational institutes which is increasing the problem of the traffic.

Zamalek's landmark was it's green areas and it's natural views that had now been completely deteriorated and deformed. Ancient trees have been cut and beautiful gardens have disappeared.

The sewage puddles became something very normal to have everyday in Zamalek. and the water maintenance became a daily problem. 

6- The noise pollution

Al Sawy cutural wheel could be beneficial and important, but 
the hundreds of concerts and the amount of people who attend are causing noise pollution. Besides, many people see it as not education, but it's more of profitable and making money. 

7- The huge number and shops

Zamalek has an over number of shops and stores. Whenever you walk you can find two bookstores in the same street. You can find over 5 mobile stores in the same area. You could find over 10 super markets in the same street with the same address.

The "SUSHI" Competition for Sushi Lovers

The number of sushi competitors in Zamalek is getting so high... The number of Sushi and Asian  restaurants is like a roller coaster that only goes up... And, the problem is every restaurant and every one has it's own unique style and own Sushi taste so you can't pick a favorite one...
